Team Affliction was formed in October of 2000 by the former leaders and east coast squad of clan No Way Out.
No Way Out, a team founded in 1998 by Simple and Fury, was a Quake 1 CTF team that had achieved much success in the later years of the original Quake. In early 2000, with the release of Quake 3 the team decided to move on and try their hands at something new. Unfortunately, many of the older team members did not make the transition with the rest of the team.
The East coast HPB squad picked up a few key members and saw great success in the early days of Quake 3 CTF, winning two Bannockburn CTF League HPB titles, and holding the small communities coveted number one ranking on the Online Gaming League's Quake 3 HPB CTF ladder. Our west coast LPB squad recruited more people and began their transition into Quake 3. They saw some success in Teamplay.net's Invite Capture Ring 5, with a respectable finish of the tournament.
However, there were many internal problems with the new additions to the west coast LPB roster and the older members. This eventually led to the departure of the east coast squad and both founders of No Way Out to form a new team named Affliction. The choice to leave was made with the hopes that No Way Out's LPB squad would continue on, but unfortunately the clan folded only days later.
Starting a new face in the gaming community is not always easy. The team was now retired from competitive Q3 HPB CTF and looking to do some damage in the LPB scene. At the formation of Affliction the active roster for the team was Beatnik, Fury, Kryptonix, Lukin, Simple, and Sliced Ice. Other members that made the transition, but were no longer active, or still HPB were: Conk, Gordo, JackD, J`Rod, and Scooper. Simple again took the job of leading the team.
In this time period, we had many problems related to internet connections and only played a handful of matches. Without having made any impact on the gaming scene due to this, recruiting was essentially impossible. The team members that were capable of playing were feeling held back by the inability to field a full team of players to actually compete. After a few months this eventually led to Kryptonix and Lukin leaving the team. After this, the team was idle and waiting for something to happen.
