Team Affliction was formed in October of 2000 by the former leaders and east coast squad of clan No Way Out.
No Way Out, a team founded in 1998 by Simple and Fury, was a Quake 1 CTF team that had achieved much success in the later years of the original Quake. In early 2000, with the release of Quake 3 the team decided to move on and try their hands at something new. Unfortunately, many of the older team members did not make the transition with the rest of the team.
The East coast HPB squad picked up a few key members and saw great success in the early days of Quake 3 CTF, winning two Bannockburn CTF League HPB titles, and holding the small communities coveted number one ranking on the Online Gaming League's Quake 3 HPB CTF ladder. Our west coast LPB squad recruited more people and began their transition into Quake 3. They saw some success in Teamplay.net's Invite Capture Ring 5, with a respectable finish of the tournament.
However, there were many internal problems with the new additions to the west coast LPB roster and the older members. This eventually led to the departure of the east coast squad and both founders of No Way Out to form a new team named Affliction. The choice to leave was made with the hopes that No Way Out's LPB squad would continue on, but unfortunately the clan folded only days later.
At the formation of Affliction the roster for the team was Beatnik, Conk, Fury, Gordo, JackD, Kryptonix, Lukin, Scooper, Simple, and Sliced Ice. All of the founding members are still with the clan to this day, or have retired from gaming. Simple carried over his leadership role within the team.

Affliction has always been about having fun in a competitive gaming atmosphere. The keys to success in this are enjoying the games you play and enjoying the people you play with. Beyond that, our members have a common goal of wanting to achieve something special with the team. Often looked at as an underdog in games, we have defied the odds and rose to the top time and time again.
A large portion of our roster consists of players we had played against in previous games. We tend to stick to people we have known for some time in our recruiting decisions. We also pride ourselves in finding undiscovered talent and harnessing it.

The years passed, friends formed, and success we have already achieved will hold the team together. Affliction is always looking for a new challenge and something we can enjoy. If we find a new game that is fun and there is a competitive community behind it, we will be there.
